July Garden and pots

Our garden is doing nicely. Here the kids are picking peas for dinner. I had hoped for things to be further along when I got back from KY, but my basil seeds had only a few seedlings germinated, and nothing where I seeded the oregano. I went ahead and put more seed down today, even if they start late I can stil get what I need from them (especially the basil - can't wait for pesto!!!!). The tomatoes are doing okay, they all have some fruit, one was ripe when I saw it, but someone else had eaten it first :-( The peppers all have some fruit, but the plants are tiny. My squashes (pumpkins, zucchini, etc) all got a late start, but they are growing. The cilantro and nasturtium volunteers are all doing great :-) Oh, the potatoes are doing wonderfully. I just heaped up more soil around them, a few of the plants I got to lay down and put soil over their stems. I hope they work out good, I'd love to try more types if they do! The spinach and lettuce are pretty much done, they have all bolted. I got one big salad out of it :-( John got to have a bunch of good salads while I was gone, anyway. We noticed these visitors to our garden, a pair of fledgling doves. They have been hanging out in the garden for a few days, they sat with me while I weeded for a few hours yesterday. Mama is still feeding them, but they can fly a bit. Saw them this morning, but I guess they will be gone soon.

Went to pottery lab today - my next class starts up Thursday, so I got a little practice in. I actually threw 4 pots in one session- amazing for me! And none of them went wonky (yes, that is a pottery term, I promise). So before I start bringing home this new set of pots, I wanted to get a picture of all the pots I have done so far. What I think is interesting is how they slowly get larger, all using the exact (well, pretty close) same amount of clay, 2 pounds. I couldn't get a good shot of them all in a row, so this will have to do. (Ignore the blue pottery behind my pots - they are from Dansk :-)

Starting from the left, back row: 1st - dark blue cylinder, 2nd - lt blue/brown cylinder, 3rd - green bowl, 4th - dk blue bowl (okay, 3 and 4 should be reversed, oops), 5th - brown plate (front row), 6th - green/blue bowl, 7th and 8th - lt blue bowls, 9th - blue/purple bowl. 10th and 11th - "matching" lt blue/green mugs (far back row).
