Most of January

Wow, I'm way behind! January has been very busy!



My parents and grandma went home on Friday, the 16th. Here are a few group pictures from their visit.

Thursday we all went to Elise's ballet class - Ms Holly was sure nice to let us all watch! I also picked up some finished pottery while there. These have all been waiting to be glazed since before christmas, so I was very glad to get them. My work is definitely improving!

There were a few more, but these were my favorites. I also did a very nice small pitcher, but I sent it home with my mom before I could take a picture! (Hint hint.)

Owen and Elise made John and myself a nice breakfast Saturday (or Sunday?) morning:

I started anothe knitting project - a sweater for ME. The yarn is darker than I expected, and very varigated, and different from skein to skein (will be a challenge!):

Our christmas gift from Great-Grandma Welty was Amarillis. She is looking quite lovely, don't you agree?

One of Owen's bday gifts was a science kit to make slime. There are many different varieties, don't ya know? Here is the first - protoplasmic slime, Affectionaltely known as Slimy. (That's Slim-e NOT Slime-e.)

This week was Science Fair at the kids' school. Both kids did projects, and I forgot to take pictures. (Bad mom!) SO here is a blurry photo of the picture taken by the judges. Mom got to help with judging (well, I was a runner this year!).

Owen took apart a vacuum cleaner and wrote up how it works, as well as how the motor works:

Elise took pictures of animal footprints after a light snow, and looked up on the internet how to identify them:

I don't remember what day this was, but the kids performed a lovely magic show for us. The video is very grainy, I don't know why.

I had my "audition" Tuesday and am now an employee of South Subruban Parks and Rec. Welcome back to the world of paying jobs, I guess ;-p

Snowy Day again!

Owen woke up to a snowy beautiful birthday!

Owen is also lucky enough to have a field trip ON his birthday to the Museum of Science and Nature, one of his favorite places in the world.

I got this really cute video, and wanted to set it to music. I think it worked out nicely. The music is Emilina by Nathan, but if you use your imagination....

The snow just stopped.

Happy Birthday Owen

Owen is 9 years old. I can't believe it.

We had a small party with grandma, grandpa and great grandma, and a few friends.

The kids have been working on their science fair projects. We're off to a good start. Owen took apart a vacuum cleaner (the "head" had broken off, making it useless to us) and will describe how an electrical motor works. Elise took many photographs of footprints in the snow a few days ago, and will do some research on footprints and who made them.

In the process of taking apart thevacuum cleaner, Owen became inspired to make this for Elise:


Elise requested a fairy flower hat, so here is The Daffodil Hat:

Made it in one evening (used thick yarn!), and she was very happy the next morning.

I have discovered an even bigger time water than Facebook, Ravelry. You can post all of your projects, post pics, patterns, yarn used. You can post your whole stash, if you have the time to figure out what all you have. You can look for patterns. there are a lot on there. And the best part is, not only can you see the pattern, or where it came from (many are posted for free on Ravelry), but you can see many other people's version of the pattern. Their finished projects. SO you get to see the pattern done in many different colors and yarns. That is where I found the Daffodil Hat (Bluebell), and I have many more ideas now to knit. They have a function called "queue", so you can save that pattern and find it again when you are ready to start. You can list projects "in progress", which is fun. I have managed not to get anything done yet this afternoon!

That's all for now. January is planning to be very busy for me, so we'll see how often I post, I'll try, I promise.

The CAR is here!

Here it is in the garage, where it has temporarily displaced MY car.
The CAR had to go through the car wash as soon as John picked it up, since it came across the country on a uncovered car carrier, and was totally covered in road salt. Something we're not used to here.
I'll post more about the CAR as it comes up. Maybe after I get to drive it. I'll give my review ;-p

Owen's version of a really happenin' New Year's Eve Party!

We spent the evening with friends, talking, eating, drinking, watching movies and playing Wii.
New Years Day was spent in a totally lazy way, also playing with friends, knitting, relaxing by the fire.

No resolutions, I just plan to live a good life this year. Being grateful for what I have. Hopefully it will be a good one for all of us.
