Rocky Mountain Camping

The last camping trip of summer...... or at least the last one we will do in a tent.

We stayed at Rocky Mountain National Park, a definite must-visit place if you haven't seen Colorado before. There is nothing like it. Really. Having seen it before, and just last year even, we stopped at our group campground in Glacier Basin, and stayed. I didn't move my car all weekend.

Here we are starting off on our first hike, on Saturday. A whole gob of us went :-)

We stopped to climb a rock, and look cute, of course.

After 2 miles of hiking, we found this:

Bierstadt Lake. We had a picnic lunch

and enjoyed the beautiful day.
There was even a sandy beach, just made for our kids. They built a raft, that floated and held people, even.

Beautiful butterfly

Hiking back down

We were there, too.....
Sunday, another hike, this time we rode the shuttle to get there. We took up the whole back section of the bus! 18 of us.

A pretty aspen grove.

Another rock.

Rock scrambling.

Alberta Falls!

On the other side of Alberta Falls......

Getting back across Alberta Falls......

Kids vs chipmunk:

We saw a bunch of elk on our way back down from the falls.
Watching the elk

Here we saw the bull. He was really close.

Back at the campground - fairy houses:

We also went for some creek play.

And then crossing the creek while moms stayed behind:

Coming back!

Of course they had to go cross the log to get back....

And then it started raining.
Back to camp.
We got quite a tarp city going over our tables and campfire ring, so we could cook dinner relatively dry.
It gave the men something to do.

Of course then it stopped raining. Ah well, we were prepared, anyway.

Dinner and last campfire of the season.......
